Day 1: Stockholm – Uppsala - Hudiksvall – Sundsvall (360 km)
After you have picked up your car at Arlanda airport or downtown Stockholm, we
recommend that you drive only a few miles to Sweden's fourth biggest city Uppsala. Discover where the famous Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus lived and worked. You cannot miss Uppsala Cathedral,
which is Scandinavia’s largest in Gothic style. The construction of the church is believed to have begun as far back as 1270 AD. Let yourself be inspired by another famous Uppsalian, the film director
Ingmar Bergman, whose father was ordained at Uppsala Cathedral in 1912. Many of Bergman's works are strongly influenced by this old university town with a very young spirit. And by the way, this is also
where the yearly Swedish reggae festival takes place every August!
Our next recommended stop is at Hudiksvall, or Happy Hudik as the city
has been called since the mid 19th century because of its hospitality and lively social life. On your final leg, a number of small idyllic villages dot the coast of the Gulf of Botnia along the Coastal Road up north to Sundsvall.
Day 2: Sundsvall
Free time at Sundsvall, the Capital of Northern Sweden, which usually
tops the summer chart when it comes to hours of sunshine! And there are plenty of city activities on offer. Why not participate in a rooftop tour? Or check out the Free Fall Simulator? If you visit
Sundsvall in the winter, there are many skiing opportunities only a few minutes' away from the bustling city centre. And all year round, you will find Sweden's first international casino at Sundsvall. We
wish you lots of luck!
Day 3: Sundsvall – Höga kusten – Örnsköldsvik (155 km)
Try to leave Sundsvall early in the morning. The High Coast
stretching north all the way to Örnsköldsvik has been declared a Unesco World Heritage. Its highest line is at 286 metres above the current sea level making it the highest in the world! We recommend a stop at the small mountain
Skuleberget. If you are daunty, you can climb its steep rocks all the way to the top. There are also several circular walks in the famous forest Skuleskogen. Nordingrå
is at the heart of the High Coast and behind every hill there are things to be discovered and experienced. Make sure that you choose to drive along the Höga kusten Slingan
between Gallsäter and Ullånger on your route. Just follow the brown sightseeing signs and you will experience the very soul of Northern Sweden.
Örnsköldsvik
is a young town with traces of humanity dating back 7000 years. But above all, Örnsköldsvik is a forward-looking town with a strong orientation to sports: golf in the summer, ski jumping in the middle of town in the winter - and a well-performing ice hockey team!
Day 4: Örnsköldsvik – Thai Pavilion – Åre (350 km)
Let us go inland and let us go exotic! Our first recommended stop is at the
Thai Pavilionat Utanede, the only one of its kind outside Thailand! We thank H.M. the King Chulalongkorn of Thailand for visiting us in 1897. The Holy Pavilion will definitely bring you in the
right mode for the rest of your trip along the Inland River, and finally all the way to Sweden's pride Åre
– one of the best skiing resorts of the world and also a very popular place to spend the summer next to Lake Åre.
Day 5 Åre
Free time at Åre. In the winter, Åre is one of the most popular skiing
resorts in Europe, hosting the World Cup, so book in advance! Whether you are a fan of down-hill or cross-country skiing, this is The Place to Be. Do not forget that there are lots of toboggan fun as
well - and you have not visited the Swedish mountains if you have not gone on a dog sledge excursion. Some of us end up bringing a Husky dog home! In the summertime, Åre is the mountain-bike Mecca of
Northern Europe. You can also sit back and relax at your flat next to Lake Åre, go fishing or just enjoy the fresh mountain air!
Day 6 Åre – Mora (370 km)
Today you will drive the furthest, but you will also experience a very
interesting inland scenery. If you start really early in the morning, try to make a detour to the island of Frösön, where you can visit the Frösöstenen, the most Northern rune-stone in the world,
dating from around 1050 AD.
When you have arrived to the Lake Siljan region, you have a wide variety
of activities to choose between. We will of course adapt your visit to your interests.
Our horse-loving friends will surely enjoy the excitement at Romme, one
of the nicest trotting race courses in Sweden.
In the Lake Siljan region there are plenty of opportunities to fish, bathe or
canoe in one of the hundreds of lakes. Leave your car behind and cycle or hike the Siljan trail or walk in the footsteps of king Gustavus Vasa along the Vasaloppet trail. Thanks to the Swedish “
Right to Roam” Act, which is part of the Swedish constitution since 1994, you may pick berries or mushrooms in the forests. But remember that the Right to Roam comes with an equal emphasis on the
responsibility to look after the countryside! The motto is "Do not disturb. Do not destroy".
Day 7 Lake Siljan
Free time at Lake Siljan. 360 million years ago a 4 km diameter meteor fell
from space. The result we see today as Lake Siljan and its beautiful surroundings. Why not visit Dalhalla, a former limestone quarry, which is one of the only three places in the world where you
can clearly see how the natural landscape has been affected by meteoric impact? Here we have established a unique festival stage of international reputation with exceptional acoustical qualities. From
May to September, you can choose between opera, choir- and jazz concerts!
Orsa Bear Park
is open all year and this is Northern Europe’s largest bear park! Here you will also find Siberian tigers and wolves, lynx, wolverines and polar foxes. We are happy to say that in Orsa Bear Park these predators live in their natural habitat.
Day 8 Mora – Falun – Sigtuna (310 km)
Heading back towards the greater Stockholm region, we do recommend a stop at
Falun – for several reasons! Go on a guided tour of the Falun Mine, which is another Unesco world heritage in Sweden. The Falun Mine enjoyed its glory days in the 17th century and helped Sweden create a lot of wealth. Mining continued until 1992. Do keep in mind that the temperature in the mine is about +5 °C all year round. We recommend robust, warm clothes and comfortable footwear.
Your final stop will be at Sigtuna. In the year 980 AD, King Eric the
Victorious built the very first city of Sweden. Today, more than a thousand years later, the Main street (Stora gatan) still remains intact – with the very same stretch and curvature! At Sigtuna you will
find the smallest town hall in Sweden and maybe even in Europe! Today Sigtuna town hall is part of the Sigtuna Museum and is also very popular for weddings.
Day 9 Sigtuna and departure
After a morning stroll along Lake Mälaren at Sigtuna, you give the car back at
Arlanda Airport. The shuttle bus will bring you to your terminal free of charge.
